Can Pumpkin Save us of Doxorubicin Induced Cardiotoxicity?

چکیده

Doxorubicin (DOX) is one of the drugs necessary for treatment 10 most common types cancer. The leading adverse effect limiting clinical use DOX cardiotoxicity. Given that literature data indicate a protective role carotenoids in doxorubicin-induced toxicity, our study we compared cardioprotective mixture pumpkin and commercially available antioxidant preparation. Animals were distributed 8 groups (Control - S; NADES N; Dox; Carotenoids Car; CardiofortIN CF; NADES-Doxorubicin N-Dox; Carotenoids-Doxorubicin Car-Dox; CardiofortIN-Doxorubicin CF-Dox). Histological sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) analyzed presence myocardial damage by doxorubicin score (DDS). From heart tissue homogenate determined intensity lipid peroxidation specific antioxidative enzyme activity (superoxide dismutase; catalase; glutathione S-transferase; peroxidase). In Car-DOX CF-DOX groups, significantly reduced to group. Pretreatment animals lesser extent led higher enzymes activity, Pretreated carotenoids, only 50 % had some degree damage, no extensive damage. pretreatment showed less effect. carotenoid extract, DDS significantly, so group has changes equivalent mild Although lowered values, still moderate level myocardium This vivo its findings extracted from may be promising agent against induced cardiotoxicity, at least part mediated through inhibition DOX-induced oxidative stress.

Can technology save us?

Asks the reader to: assume there is incredible technological progress in endeavours to solve problems of energy scarcity, pollution and congestion; imagine a super Super Car powered by a pollution-free perpetual motion engine; imagine a super Internet which provides free and efficient access to all the databases and libraries in the world. The result would be a social and environmental disaster...

Can ErbB2 overexpression protect against doxorubicin cardiotoxicity?

IDENTIFICATION OF THE human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2/ErbB2) as a target for therapy in HER2/ErbB2-positive breast cancer was a huge milestone in treatment of these typically highly aggressive cancers. At 8-yr follow-up, trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody against HER2/ErbB2, increased survival by 40% compared with standard chemotherapy: anthracycline (doxorubicin), cyclophosphamide...

Transcriptional analysis of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Doxorubicin is an effective chemotherapeutic agent against a broad range of tumors. However, a threshold dose of doxorubicin causes an unacceptably high incidence of heart failure and limits its clinical utility. We have established two models of doxorubicin cardiotoxicity in mice: 1) in an acute model, mice are treated with 15 mg/kg of doxorubicin once; and 2) in a chronic model, they receive ...

Doxorubicin Induced Cardiotoxicity: Possible Cause and Preventions

Doxorubicin/Adriamycin (Dox) is a powerful, well established and highly efficacious drug in the fight against many kinds of cancers like solid tumors, leukemia’s, soft tissue sarcoma, breast cancer, small cell carcinoma of the lung and esophageal carcinomas. But its clinical usefulness is still restricted due to its specific toxicities to cardiac tissues. Congestive heart failure, cardiomyopath...

Low dose radiation prevents doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity

This study aimed to develop a novel and non-invasive approach, low-dose radiation (LDR, 75 mGy X-rays), to prevent doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity. BALB/c mice were randomly divided into five groups, Control, LDR (a single exposure), Sham (treated same as LDR group except for irradiation), DOX (a single intraperitoneal injection of DOX at 7.5 mg/kg), and LDR/DOX (received LDR and 72 h ...
